Gethsemane Prayer
John 17:11 "I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name (en to onomati su) that you have given me, that they may be one, as we are one."
Jesus died on the cross and returned to the original kingdom of God. The disciples are in the world, and they ask to be preserved in the name of the Father. 『En to onomati su (ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου)』 means to be preserved in the name (ho logos) that you possess. Those who are in Christ, the Word, are being preserved by God the Father. Therefore, the saints become one with God, and the saints become one with each other. This is the theory of the Trinity.
John 17:14 "I have given them your word (ton logon su), and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world."
Those who live by the word of Ho Logos (those who believe in the cross and the present resurrection) are separated from the world. That is why the world hates them. The world is ruled by Satan. Those who live by Ho Logos listen to His word and live by His word. What Jesus wants is for the saints not to fall into evil. In order not to fall into evil, they must live by the word of Ho Logos. They must be united with the death of the cross and the present resurrection.
John 17:16 "They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world." Those who belong to the world are those who have fallen into evil. The evil of the world is those who love the flesh, and so they love the world. However, those who do not belong to the world are those who believe that they died with Jesus in the flesh and entered the heavenly body of resurrection life. Just as Jesus did not belong to the world, the disciples also want to be like that.
John 17:21 “That they all may be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.” This is a request for God the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the saints to become one through the Holy Spirit. Just as the Father and the Son become one through the Holy Spirit, it means that the disciples become one with the Father in Christ.
This is the content of Jesus' prayer to God for the result of all that would come from the resurrection while he was with his disciples before his ministry on the cross. The content is, "Please make us one." He prays, "Just as the Father and I are one, please make the disciples and all those who believe through them one with the Father in Christ." In Ephesians 5:30-32, it says, "For we are members of his body. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery, and I am talking about Christ and the church."
Genesis 2:22-24 also has the same meaning: "And the rib which the LORD God had taken from man he made into a woman, and he brought her to the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man." Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." Just as Adam and Eve were originally one body, Christ and the church are one body.
Christ is the one sent from God in the kingdom of God. From Adam came a member called Eve. When that member came out, it was not one body. That is, it became two bodies. God said that this man (Christ) would leave his parents (God) and go to the members in the world, and unite with those members and become one, bringing them to God. This word is explained through the apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:30-32.
John 17:22-23 “And the glory that you gave me I have given them, that they may be one, just as we are one; I in them, and you in me, that they may be brought to perfect unity. This will let the world know that you sent me and that you love them, even as you love me.” Becoming one with God the Father is the way to salvation. In order to become one, we must become one through Jesus Christ. In order to go through Jesus Christ, we must believe that we will die with Jesus and participate in the present resurrection with Him. In other words, those who are born from heaven become one with God the Father.
John 17:24 "Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am, and that they may see my glory, which you have given me, because you loved me before the creation of the world."
God first gave birth to Christ and created all things through this Christ. The Creator God, Christ, came to the world. Because certain things happened in the kingdom of God, Christ came to the world, which God planned and planned before the creation of the world. This is the secret of the kingdom of heaven that has been hidden since the creation of the world.
There are several reasons why Jesus Christ came to this world. First, Matthew 20:28 says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” A “ransom” is when someone else takes care of a debt I have or something I deserve. For example, when I cannot pay my debt, someone else pays it for me. It is a ransom. It is paid for with the blood of Jesus.
John 17:26 "I have made known to them your name (to-onoma-su), and will continue to make it known (gnoriso), so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them."
